The Lotus Elise has always epitomised lightweight performance and driver-focused engineering, and few examples embody that philosophy with such flair as this Lotus Elise Sport 220 '99T Camel Special Edition'. With just two examples produced, this model pays tribute to Lotus’ legendary Formula 1 heritage, recalling the iconic Camel-sponsored 99T driven by Ayrton Senna in the late 1980s.

Finished in striking Saffron Yellow (C106) paintwork with period-inspired decals and blue central stripe, the car’s motorsport roots are unmistakable. Exclusive to this special edition, this livery ensures the car stands out as both a driver’s machine and a collector’s piece. Inside, the Elise retains its raw, purposeful cockpit, with lightweight sports seats, exposed aluminium, and carefully chosen trim details that further highlight its special status. Satin black forged lightweight wheels complete the exterior detailing, with a yellow outer rim. A black soft top ensures usability in all weathers.

Powered by a supercharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine, the Sport 220 delivers 217bhp through a refined six-speed, open gated manual gearbox. With a kerb weight of just over 900kg, performance is prompt, with a 0-60 time of just 4.2 seconds. The handling is as precise and communicative as only a Lotus can be. With finely tuned suspension, unassisted steering, and remarkable agility, the Elise provides one of the most connected driving experiences on the road or track.

The 99T Camel Edition was conceived in January 2017, with backing from Classic Team Lotus. Clive Chapman, son of Lotus founder Colin Chapman, took great delight in the project and played a vital part in creating the liveries for each special edition. Eight special examples were produced, with only two representing the iconic Lotus 99T Camel livery. The other special editions included the Type 33 Team Lotus, Type 49 Gold Leaf and Type 72 JPS liveries.

The striking exterior is complimented by an equally fantastic interior. The seats are finished in a contrasting blue leather, with black leather bolsters and contrast white stitch. The door cards follow suit, with blue and black leather trim. The Colin Chapman initials logo is embroidered into the headrests. A partial interior colour pack in Saffron Yellow highlights the gear shift surround.

First delivered in September 2018, the car understandably went straight into a private collection where it was cherished and admired. Move forward to July 2024, and the car was purchased by its second owner, a keen Lotus enthusiast, with just 88 miles covered. After one year of ownership and trouble-free enjoyment, the car is now presented today with just 2,350 miles on the clock. As a result, not only is this Elise one of the rarest models available today, but also one of the lowest mileage examples around.

Having received a full D level service by Hilton & Moss in July 2024, the car has been taken care of very well, and shall receive an A level service upon sale. The MOT remains valid until June 2026.

Having been previously cared for by Hilton & Moss, and once again inspected by our Lotus experts prior to sale, this Elise is ready to be enjoyed and appreciated for the fantastic car that it is.
