Historic meets High-Performance: Recommissioned 1963 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Series 1 “Semi-Lightweight” now available for sale

Hilton & Moss is proud to announce a 1963 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Series 1 “Semi-Lightweight” available for sale following a full recommission and a class-winning shakedown at Goodwood.

Originating from a 1963 OTS, this car was reimported from the United States in 1991 to compete in motorsport and reconfigured to FIA Appendix K 1965 Semi-Lightweight specification. Over the last 30 years, the E-Type has been driven and developed by keen racing enthusiasts, retaining its timeless appeal that has captivated motorsport enthusiasts and racing drivers for decades.

Having undergone a thorough no-expense-spared rebuild in 2015 and a full recommission and engine upgrade by Hilton & Moss in 2025, this E-Type has been consistently refined throughout its lifetime to provide a superior experience and performance. Constructed to exacting standards, this E-Type is primed for racing, equipped with features such as an FIA Roll Cage, lightweight hardtop with rear ventilation, and Perspex side and rear windows.

In comparison to a road legal E-Type, the Semi-Lightweight E-Type is crafted for motorsport and substantially modified to provide peak performance on track. Designed to excel at speed and power, extensive use of lightweight aluminium throughout the bodywork enabled a substantial reduction in weight that aided agility and handling when racing. Maintaining its steel monocoque tub (‘Semi’), the car's bonnet, doors, lower rear wings and boot were re-engineered using aluminium and the rear arches widened to accommodate wider rear tyres for improved grip and cornering performance.

To enhance its racing potential further, the E-Type’s 3.8-litre Crosthwaite & Gardiner specification wide-angle head race engine has been rebuilt by Riedling & Mouser and now produces over 370 bhp, a significant upgrade from the standard version's 265 bhp. The engine is mated to a Dennis Welch-built straight-cut competition 4-speed gearbox. In addition to these powerhouses under the bonnet, the E-Type has undergone suspension upgrades and geometry refinement to enable optimal performance on track.

Accompanied by a comprehensive history file, this classic endurance race car is a compelling addition to any serious motorsport enthusiast's collection. Fully prepared for participation in Pre-'66 GT racing events, Hilton & Moss’s expert team have applied meticulous attention to detail across the entire vehicle, ensuring a perfectly restored high-performance historic race car that can continue its racing legacy. For those looking to travel further afield, this Jaguar is road registered and eligible for rallies such as the Tour Auto and Coupe des Alpes for international adventures.

“If you’re looking for a “Semi-Lightweight” E-Type that exudes power, prowess and performance, look no further. The Hilton & Moss team have worked to transform this racing machine into the masterpiece of engineering that Jaguar E-Types are renowned for. This iconic car will be unstoppable on track in the hands of an experienced classic driver looking for a step up.” – Mark O’Neill, Motorsports Manager
