Ex-Roy Salvadori Jaguar displayed at Wilton House

Hilton & Moss was delighted to attend the inaugural Wilton House Concours de Légendes, an exciting new addition to the UK's concours calendar that celebrates some of the world's most significant and historically important motor cars. Set within the magnificent grounds of Wilton House in Wiltshire, the event brought together an exceptional collection of rare classics, competition cars and automotive icons, providing the perfect backdrop for the debut edition of what promises to become a landmark event for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Representing Hilton & Moss was one of the most important Jaguar competition cars in existence, the legendary Roy Salvadori Jaguar XK120 Competition Roadster, HBC 226. A car with an extraordinary motorsport history, HBC 226 remains one of the most recognisable early racing XK120s, having been campaigned in period by future Formula One driver and Le Mans winner Roy Salvadori before passing into the ownership of racing driver Peter Blond.

Originally built in November 1950, HBC 226 enjoyed an active competition career throughout the early 1950s, competing at many of Britain's most famous circuits including Goodwood, Silverstone, Castle Combe and Boreham. Under Salvadori's ownership, the car achieved numerous podium finishes before securing victory at the 10th Goodwood Members' Meeting in 1952, helping establish its place in British motorsport history.

Following an extensive restoration to FIA competition specification, HBC 226 has continued to build upon its remarkable legacy. In recent years the car has competed at prestigious historic events including Le Mans Legends, Classic Le Mans and the Mille Miglia, where it has become a six-time finisher. Its exceptional provenance, extensive competition history and unrivalled event eligibility make it one of the finest examples of the Jaguar XK120 Competition Roadster in existence.

The Wilton House Concours de Légendes provided the ideal setting to showcase such an important motor car. Throughout the weekend, visitors had the opportunity to admire HBC 226 up close while learning more about its fascinating history and its significance within Jaguar's early competition programme. Events such as these play a vital role in preserving and celebrating automotive heritage, bringing together collectors, restorers and enthusiasts who share a passion for historically important motor cars.

For Hilton & Moss, attending concours events is an opportunity not only to display exceptional vehicles but also to demonstrate the breadth of expertise within our restoration, sales and motorsport departments. Whether preparing cars for prestigious concours events, historic races or international rallies, our team is committed to maintaining every vehicle to the highest possible standard while preserving its authenticity and history.

We would like to congratulate the organisers on delivering a superb inaugural Wilton House Concours de Légendes and thank everyone who visited HBC 226 throughout the event. It was a privilege to present such an important piece of British motorsport history and to share its remarkable story with so many fellow enthusiasts. We look forward to supporting this exciting new event for many years to come.
