Hilton & Moss take the purple E-Type to Castle Combe
On Saturday, the Hilton & Moss racing team headed to Castle Combe Circuit for the 2026 Autumn Classic, taking part in the GT & Sports Car Cup with our striking purple Jaguar E-Type. The event brought together an exceptional grid of historic racing cars, with the atmosphere in the paddock perfectly capturing the spirit of classic motorsport. The Autumn Classic is one of Castle Combe’s standout historic events, combining close racing with an open and welcoming paddock.
The day began with a busy and competitive qualifying session. William Garrett and Tim Crighton pushed the purple E-Type hard around Castle Combe’s fast 1.85-mile circuit. Unfortunately, due to an unforeseen issue with the car our qualifying time was cut short, leaving us at the back end of a competitive grid. The Hilton & Moss technicians got straight to work diagnosing the issue, and just before the afternoon race, The Purple Princess was alive and ready to race once more.
The GT & Sports Car Cup always provides close and competitive historic racing, and Castle Combe was no exception. As the lights went out, William and Tim settled into the race and began their fight through the field, balancing outright pace with the demands of a long 90-minute contest.
Throughout the race, the purple E-Type showed strong pace and consistency. William and Tim battled hard amongst the competitive GT field, making the most of the car around Castle Combe’s flowing corners and fast sections while managing the traffic and pressure of the race.
After 90 minutes of close racing, the Hilton & Moss team crossed the line to finish P15, having climbed over 20 positions, securing another strong result for the purple E-Type.
It was another hugely enjoyable weekend for the whole Hilton & Moss team and a great opportunity to put the E-Type through its paces at one of the UK’s most characterful circuits. The Autumn Classic once again delivered the close, competitive racing and fantastic atmosphere that makes historic motorsport so special.
