Description
At Hilton & Moss, we pride ourselves on the trust our clients place in us to deliver work of the highest calibre. This was exemplified in a recent project, where we were honoured to work with automotive content creator Sam Fane, known to many as Seen Through Glass. Sam entrusted us with his cherished Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale for a full respray and cosmetic refresh, tailored to his dream specification.
Initial Consultation & Inspection
The project began with a thorough inspection of the vehicle alongside Sam. During this stage, we identified various areas across the bodywork requiring attention, including spots of corrosion and minor damage which had naturally developed over time. This collaborative approach ensured transparency and allowed Sam to be part of the decision-making process from the outset.
With the inspection complete, Sam made a bold choice for the new paint colour: Rosso Mugello, a deeper, more mature shade than the car’s original finish. In a move that signalled his intent to make the car truly his own, he also opted to remove the factory-applied Italian tricolour stripe that ran over the car’s bodywork.
Disassembly & Paint Preparation
Once the specification was confirmed, the Ferrari was moved into our workshop, where it underwent a full disassembly. Every panel, piece of glass, and electrical component was removed with precision and care. Our team ensured each element was catalogued and stored correctly for reassembly later in the process.
The bare shell was then transferred to our panel workshop, where the extensive paint preparation process began. Areas such as the bonnet and roof were taken back to bare metal to address corrosion and to establish a flawless base. Other panels were gently skimmed to remove excess paint layers while preserving the vehicle’s original shape and structure.
A key detail in Sam’s vision was his choice of a darker primer, selected specifically to lend the final Rosso Mugello finish a rich, deeper undertone that would set the car apart even further.
Painting & Finishing Touches
With the preparation stage complete, the car was moved into one of our temperature-controlled paint ovens, where the primer was first laid. This was followed by multiple coats of Rosso Mugello, applied by our expert paint technicians using state-of-the-art spray equipment to ensure an even and luxurious finish.
Once painted, the vehicle went through our meticulous flatting and polishing process. This step is crucial; it removes any minute imperfections and brings out the lustre in the paintwork, leaving a smooth, mirror-like surface that meets Hilton & Moss standards.
Reassembly & Interior Refinement
Following the painting stage, the car returned to our rebuild workshop. Here, each body panel, electrical component and the glass were refitted. At this point, the car was also reunited with its newly re-trimmed interior, now finished in a striking and sophisticated blue and black combination, providing a modern contrast to the classic Rosso Mugello exterior and paying homage to Ferrari’s racing pedigree.
Detailing, Protection & Handover
With the vehicle structurally and aesthetically complete, it was taken into our detailing suite for a comprehensive deep clean. Here, our detailing specialists added the final touches, ensuring every surface was spotless and every edge perfectly aligned.
Before final delivery, the Ferrari was taken for PPF installation, an essential step to preserve the flawless finish from road wear and environmental damage.
The project concluded with the vehicle's return to the Hilton & Moss showroom, where it was presented to Sam. The finished car was a testament to his vision and to our team’s dedication to craftsmanship and quality.
Final Thoughts
This Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale project not only exemplifies the level of detail we bring to every vehicle but also highlights the value of collaboration between client and craftsman. We were proud to help Sam bring his dream Ferrari to life, one that stays true to the model’s heritage while making a statement all his own.
