1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 FHC

Description

Hilton and Moss are delighted to present this stunning 1962 Jaguar E-Type S1 FHC for sale, having recently benefitted from a full restoration.

This E-Type was originally manufactured on the 12th April 1962, and delivered to the USA via a personal export delivery to its first lucky owner, Mr. P. Halpern.

The car was delivered in the highly sought after combination of Opalescent Silver Blue with Dark Blue Leather, which thankfully is how the car has been restored.

We have little history of the car’s adventures during its time in the USA, only to say that it was exported from Texas back to the UK, arriving in the summer of 2018.

Once back in the UK the current owner commissioned a restoration by Cult Classics of London, which was ongoing until 2025.

The car has now benefitted from a comprehensive commissioning by our highly skilled team of Jaguar Experts, including a full gearbox rebuild, and setting up of the brakes, engine and suspension, meaning that the car is now performing as it should, driving like a dream and is ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.

The car benefits from having a full complement of matching number components, including the engine block, cylinder head, and gearbox as confirmed by its Jaguar Heritage Certificate.

Launched in 1961 and celebrated for its stunning design, exceptional performance, and advanced engineering, the E-Type propelled itself to the forefront of British motoring.

Designed by Malcolm Sayer, its aerodynamic shape features a long bonnet, glass-covered headlights, and a sleek fastback roofline. The interior combines classic British sports car aesthetics with luxurious touches, including leather scallop bucket seats and a wooden-rimmed steering wheel.

Powered by a 3.8-litre inline-six engine, the E-Type accelerates from zero to 60mph in about 6.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of around 150mph. It features a four-speed manual ‘Moss’ gearbox and advanced independent suspension for superior handling. Notable innovations include its semi-monocoque construction and four-wheel disc brakes.

The E-Type's design and performance were influenced by Jaguar's racing success, particularly with the D-Type, and it remains a cultural icon, favoured by celebrities and frequently appearing in the media. Highly sought after by collectors, the E-Type Series 1 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe is a timeless masterpiece in automotive history, admired for its beauty, performance, and historical significance.

Available now, only at Hilton & Moss.
