There are few cars that better demonstrate Ferrari’s ability to combine outright performance with everyday usability than the 488 GTB. Arriving in 2015 as the successor to the much-loved 458 Italia, the 488 represented a significant step forward, introducing Ferrari’s twin-turbocharged V8 to its mid-engined berlinetta while retaining the drama, precision and sense of occasion for which Maranello is renowned.

The 488 GTB’s 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 produces an extraordinary 661bhp, delivering its performance through Ferrari’s lightning-fast seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The result is a car capable of reaching 62mph in around three seconds, yet one that remains remarkably composed and accessible when driven at more sensible speeds. The steering is beautifully direct, the chassis exceptionally balanced and the engine delivers a seemingly endless wave of acceleration.

What makes the 488 so special, however, is that its performance never comes at the expense of usability. It is a car equally happy carving through a favourite stretch of B-road, crossing Europe on a grand tour or simply being enjoyed on a Sunday morning.
